«A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be. » Douglas Pagels
Part I in a three part series
In general, the chemistry between our children and their friends is positive and they share good experiences together. But sometimes they are confronted with difficulties in their relationships. For example, on a given day they may be friendly towards each other and then a few days later they may become angry. They feel as if their friendship is over, only to become the best of friends once again... until another conflict arises, and so on.
When our children are upset by the ups and downs in their relationships with their friends, as parents, we would like to be able to discuss this subject with them and help them improve their personal development in this area. Oftentimes they just need to understand the "laws" that govern interpersonal relations.
Human beings are continually and unconditionally supported by benevolence, made manifest in the cosmic laws. Nature is governed by these immutable laws that are relevant everywhere and at all times, and on which we too, as human beings depend. However, we rarely sense the love and wisdom embraced by these laws. We can only truly experience this through the exertion of our spiritual core of being, which expresses itself in intuitive perception, the inner voice that accompanies every human being. Our spirit has become lethargic and walled in from inexertion. Our over-cultivated intellect has created an imbalance, causing the finer coverings around the spirit to become dense and thereby dimming its radiance. As a result, today we only rarely hear the whispered warnings and guidance of our inner voice.
Maggie is one of my best friends and over the years we shared our secrets, our dreams, our fears, our joys and most of all we shared our love for each other. With Maggie it was never complicated. I never had to explain myself to her. She accepted me for who I was in the moment. We are all constantly changing and evolving as we mature and discover the laws of life and sometimes we can lose people along the way. There are many reasons for this, one being our spiritual convictions or perhaps our earthly perceptions. Sometimes people move in different directions or just grow apart. Somehow Maggie and I never collided in these matters. We enjoyed each other’s company, we enjoyed talking about the simple things in life and we laughed a lot when we were together.
The ancient fables read by generation after generation could be described as metaphors pointing to profound truths or wisdom. Instead of the teacher attempting to instruct the pupil using long, abstract explanations, a fable metaphorically illustrates the as yet hidden knowledge and brings it to life, so that the hearer can more easily make it his own. And instead of the pupil becoming bored or distracted by unfamiliar words and concepts, a clear picture comes to life and becomes instantly comprehensible. Lessons that would otherwise require an entire lifetime to experience and absorb can be quickly grasped in mental pictures constructed through the use of metaphor.
There is a one-liner that states that there are two types of people in the world, those who divide people into two types and those who don’t. But there is no joking about the world’s ecosystem today. When it comes to our natural environment, we can indeed observe two types of approaches to managing it. On one hand, we see inspiring examples of respect for our earthy home, and on the other, we can find examples where such efforts are insufficient or lacking.
Many of us are familiar with these famous words written by William Shakespeare centuries ago, yet today their eternal value and deeper meaning seem to be lost and they serve only as an empty phrase that we like to quote.
When questioned about the actual significance of these words of wisdom, most of us would probably reply that they are self explanatory- we should be true to who we are in all that we do. But let us delve deeper into their connection with the spiritual laws of Creation.
How little time indeed do human beings allot for spiritual reflections, even though we ourselves, our real ego, our spirit, is a part of the spiritual world, simply through the very fact that we originate in the Spiritual Realm. This is our true home, Paradise, that we left in the urge and longing to become conscious.
Even here on earth, a person who immigrates to another country does not forget his homeland. At the least, he thinks about it now and then and is often overcome with homesickness for the land of his earthly origin.
Many of us have often heard the popular expression «Smile and the whole world smiles with you». And we usually do smile when we hear this spoken. But can we actually help the rest of the world to smile, especially today with all of the chaos on our planet? The answer to this question is yes.
In our articles we have often spoken of the law of reaping and sowing and given our readers numerous examples of how this law governs our lives, our destiny, our karma, etc. In fact, it is one of the laws of Creation that most people understand best because of the inexhaustible illustrations we can give in order to explain it. Yet at the same time most human beings find it difficult to put their knowledge to use in every day life.
We often say that certain individuals are lucky when they seem to always come out on top when confronted with difficult problems. They are even lucky when things are going well because happy events continuously surround them that only increase their state of well-being. Why do these people have so much luck? Why them and not others?
There are many people that believe our destiny revolves around chance. Events therefore take place without any real cause and are totally unpredictable and inexplicable. We hear time and again that the luck of certain individuals is «due to chance». Yet how can chance, that by definition acts without rhyme or reason, always direct favourable events towards specific people?
